This was an initiative of the Beacon Foundation who encourage students to stay in school to complete Year 12, while also reducing youth unemployment. The combination of Mow the Mo was the Shave off that occurred at Maroondah Emergency on 2nd December 2010. You will see in the group photo some of the participants together with two of the helpful health workers who did the ‘shave off’.

We understand that next year Eastern Health will be running this event again and we hope that there will be even more participants.

Congratulations to the Warriors who won Division 6, coached by our very own Shani Comben and the Knights who we were runners up in Division 2. The ladies team had another very successful season finishing third. We’re looking forward to seeing more great results in 2011. Keep up the good work.

The Maroondah City Council has once again planned an exceptional program of events for Maroondah Business Week 2010. Whether you are new to business, or have been operating for many years, the 2010 program promises to provide an abundance of information, inspiration and networking opportunities.

The calibre of speakers and the variety of events is outstanding. This year there will be three very special keynote guest speakers; all have interesting and inspirational stories. The NAB Business Breakfast will feature ex footballer David Schwarz. Peter Alexander, the ‘pyjama king’ will speak at the RACV Business Insurance Networking Event. Tara Moss, model and successful author, will entertain and inform at the Eastland Business Lunch.

With all the key events, tours, networking opportunities plus the eight training sessions, Maroondah Business Week 2010 promises to provide inspiration and key business information.

The fund raising event has all funds raised by way of donations going directly to Maroondah Hospital Emergency Department

Mr Con Nottas, the newly appointed partner of Hutchinson Legal said, “Next year it is hoped that other businesses and individuals in Maroondah will join in this event as it seeks to raise funds for one of our local hospitals”.

Staff from Hutchinson Legal will be sponsored to grow and then shave their moustaches and beards.  Some may even be tempted to dye their original moustache for the occasion.  At this stage staff from Quattro Hair Fashion in Eastland will donate their time and ensure that the shaving (and the dying) is performed professionally and appropriately.

‘We are always keen to promote good local causes’ said Martin Reilly of Hutchinson Legal.  ‘But in any event, many of our clients making applications to the Victims of Crime Tribunal use the valuable services of the Emergency Department so this is a way we can contribute to their on-going care’.

The Victorian Governement will be providing free metropolitan, V/Line services and regional town bus services to those with Seniors Cards during the festival.

Opening Day Celebrations will be held at Federation Square on the Sunday 4 October 2009 featuring: The Victorian Police Showband and Pipe Band, Dr Rock and the Louisiana Shakers. The U3A and other festival supporters will provide stalls, entertainment and information for all ages.
