World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Hutchinson Legal is supporting World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on Monday 15 June 2015.
Elder abuse is more prevalent in our society than people know. Consider the following scenario. Bill lives in his son Richard's house and pays rent and for the majority of household expenses.
Bill has a valuable stamp collection which Richard persuades him to sell. Richard obtains Bill's bank account details and sells the collection, but only deposits a third of the sale price into Bill's bank account. Richard becomes enraged when Bill confronts him and orders him out of the house[i].
There are many forms of Elder abuse, financial, emotional, physical and sexual, to name a few. The abuse is often performed by carers who are overwhelmed by the task and need support themselves. By bringing the problem to light, we are more able to find solutions to this much neglected problem.
We urge you to support raising awareness for this issue, by wearing a purple ribbon before or on WEEAD. These ribbons can be collected from our reception, together with the information booklet referred to above.
